Hey Party People,

I thought I’d give Puzzle Time another shot. Based on the views last time, not a big fav! But we’re still a growing channel, so I’ll be giving it a few more tries. This time the puzzle is Masked Man- as in can you guess who the DC character (hero or villain) is solely based on a close-up image of their mask. Images are a bit blurrier than I’d like- but be free to yell at me if it’s not doable.

Now some of you might be wondering: “Where’s the usual comicbook video?” Well with Halloween around the corner, I’ve got a monster related one coming in another week or so- but instead of leaving you hanging at the beginning of the month, I posted this. Typically, a Puzzle Time should be a mid-month video. In November, things will be back to normal, so don’t hate me too much!

Anyway, back in a few weeks with some monster fun.

Cheers!

Hey Party People,

I’m back with part two of my look at diversity in superhero comics! As I showed in part 1, superhero comics still suffer from a lack of diversity. In case you missed it, you can check it out here:

So now the question is, what can we- or rather publishers do about it. As I lay out in the video, there are lots of different ways to increase diversity, but only one way to make everyone happy. Check it out!

Hey Party people,

Welcome to another year of Super-hero Pow! I can’t tell you how much I wanted to get this video out before February- but didn’t happen. My goal is to get one video out a month, and I’m behind already. If you’d like to help, encouragement will do it! I’m a fool for anyone telling me how great I am- it happens so rarely (sniff). Subscribing to the YouTube channel helps a lot too. Last year, after Super-Hero Pow’s launch and then YouTube’s rule changes, I wasn’t quite sure what to do. Then a hundred of you subscribed, and well I felt obligated to keep it rolling. So seriously, a simple “atta boy” keeps me from going to bed early.

So this time I tackle the main event of comicbooks these days- diversity! As the exact opposite of diversity myself, I thought do we really need diversity characters anymore? Obviously in the 1940’s, the superhero community was whiter than a news caster’s teeth! But it’s the 21th century now, the Black Panther was the biggest movie, hell a black guy was just President, and the new President dyes himself orange! Clearly white males are the new minority! Or are they??? Check out the video to learn more!

A few weeks back I talked about Power Girl’s physique, this time I talk about her costume. Just what is up with that circle window on her chest?

It’s often been said that Batman used to run around with a handgun and kill people. But, is that really true? Check out his first 14 issues, Detective Comics #27-39 and Batman Comics #1 to find out! Though while we are at it, how many did Robin kill???

Hey party people,

Here’s another peek into my old sketch books. First a color pencil sketch of Poison Ivy, in the old Bruce Timm style. Next a marker sketch of a one shot character from DC comics, Densensitizer, she showed up in a Justice League Quarterly, and as far as I know has never been seen again. I guess I was just really bored for something to draw that day.

Then we have three character sketches from a webcartoon I has hired to produce, the Barbarian Moron (no idea what happened to this, or the guy who created it), so it’s Moron Barbarian himself, Invisible Torso-Man and I’ve totally forgot who the robot woman was, Amazoid or something. I think she had a oven in her belt buckle – oui. Anyway, enjoy and have a great week.

Hey Party People,

Was looking through my comicbook collection the other day, and I came across one of my favorite series, THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD ( the comic that the recent cartoon series was based off of)! It featured my favorite superhero, Batman, teaming up with various superheroes and other characters. One issue had him team-up with the Riddler, another with Swamp Thing- one of my favs was a team-up with Richard Dragon (arguably DC #1 martial artist). And the two of them actually fought each other in the issue- too cool!

But as I looked for back issues of this series (it’s run was just about over by the time I really started collecting comics) the ones I liked the best were his team-ups with female heroes: Black Canary, Supergirl, Wonder Woman- who knows why. One character he never team-up with was another one of my favorite characters: Powergirl! To me, Powergirl had all the cool of Supergirl, with none of the baggage. Teaming her up with Batman seems like a natural to me, but I guess she was on a different Earth back then and all.

Anyway, here’s my homage to the venerable THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD: Batman and Powergirl- wearing the costume I first saw her in, which I suppose is why I like it best.

As a side note, before THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD became a superhero book, and then the Batman team-up book, it was the home of Robin Hood, the Viking Prince, the Silent Knight and the Gold Gladiator! As I’m also a big adventure fan, I love all those characters too! Wish they had longer runs, especially the Silent Knight and Gold Gladiator- oh well, Batman was a bigger seller!

Lastly, I’m just about done with the next Captain Rocket cartoon, unfortunately, I just can’t find the time to wrap it up! It takes more than the few hours it takes to draw a little pin-up like this. I’m sure hoping I can get it done before the end of the month though- so here’s hoping!
